Manual design

At the simplest level, a simple hand drawn sketch can be very effective for the design creation process. It allows a very 'free form' style, the use of annotation, and the inclusion of colour if the tools are available.

It make a very strong statement about the personal nature of design, because it's so clearly your own work.

The designs you create can easily be converted to digital formats so that they can be included in the portfolio produced as design documentation.

Electronic design

Software produces assets that can be included in the portfolio without additional tools or processing. Some of the tools commonly used are:

• Figma
• Photoshop
• Illustrator
• Affinity 2 Suite
• Penpot
• Adobe XD
• Online tools like Ninja Mock
• Draw.IO (now app.diagrams.net)

Evaluation

In your portfolio you should describe 3 options.

• Hand drawing
• One of the 'sophisticated' tools such as Figma
• Draw.IO

You should state clearly which tool you will use, and why it's your choice.
